Transitions into High School
Hawai'i P-20 Initiative: A Statewide Collaboration to Improve Student Achievement
Source: Hawai'I P-20 Initiative
The purpose of the Hawai`i P-20 Initiative is to address the challenges of the educational pipeline in Hawai`i, beginning with early learning, continuing through formal schooling from pre-K to post-secondary, and persisting throughout one's life. This website provides resources including the P-20 Strategic Plan and allows for interactive communication among the various stakeholders that make up the P-20 Council. It could be a helpful example for states that want to build online tools and platforms to encourage statewide collaboration on high school redesign.

Background and Context
Students are most at risk of dropping out during their first year of high school.  Initiatives like ninth grade academies, smaller learning communities, advisory systems, and individual learning plans can serve to personalize a student’s transition into high school and better equip them to face the new challenges that arise during that time.
