State Leadership Action
GPS Communications Toolkit
Source: Iowa Department of Education Date: 2007
The webpage presents a set of marketing and public relations materials, offered by the Iowa Department of Education, designed to communicate the message, "Grow, Prepare, Succeed" to parents and students. The goals of this initiative are to change perceptions about the skills that students should learn to prepare for success beyond high school; motivate students to take more rigorous coursework; and build community support for high school and student improvement efforts. States can use these materials to model their own leadership initiatives.

In an era of increased accountability, the state's role is even more central to the teaching that takes place in each classroom throughout the state. Whether through the establishment and improvement of state data systems, or shifting the internal organization of the agency, states are undertaking a variety of efforts to provide stronger leadership.
