Teacher's Tool Bag
Source: Texas Education Authority Date: 2004
The Teacher’s Tool Bag website was created by teachers for teachers. Educators in Texas compiled this list of resources in order to save teachers from unnecessary time and hassle while surfing the Internet. It has sections for: curriculum resources, educational resources, professional development, professional organizations, grants, conferences, awards, and special programs. This website allows users to browse lists of lesson plans and resources which have been chosen with the goal of enriching and supporting teaching and learning in the classroom. Other states education authorities could use this example to create their own online toolkit of compiled teacher resources.

Background and Context
The subject areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) have been an important part of policy debates on both the national and state level. The challenge of raising student performance in these subjects is well documented, with numerous studies showing the United States trailing the rest of the world in all of these areas. An equally daunting challenge exists in the recruitment and retention of teachers who are capable of raising the achievement level of their students in fields where expertise is highly valued outside the classroom.
