Source: Arizona Department of Education Date: 2007
The Arizona Department of Education's Dropout Prevention Web page outlines the Superintendent’s initiative to target dropout prevention and describes the mission of the newly created position of Dropout Prevention/High School Renewal Director. This internet portal also serves to support LEAs in addressing their local dropout and graduation rate issues; promotes replication of successful programs; and provides a reference point for additional resources and technical assistance.

The site provides states with resources and approaches for dealing with the issues surrounding dropout prevention, and many of the programs described would be readily transferable to a variety of locations.

Background and Context
In many states, recent legislation or gubernatorial priorities have focused attention on increasing access for high school students to post-secondary options. Small learning communities, advisory systems, individual learning plans, AP and IB classes, dual enrollment programs, exit exams, and the push to increase rigor of high school classes and graduation requirements are approaches states use to guide students through graduation and help them make successful transitions into college.
