Postsecondary Transitions
Personal Pathways to Success: Empowering all students to shape our future
Source: South Carolina Department of Education Date: 2007
This PowerPoint presentation introduces Personal Pathways to Success, a program established by South Carolina’s Education and Economic Development Act of 2005 to empower youth by making education relevant to their aspirations and abilities. This education reform initiative hopes to see end results through economic growth and increased quality of life for everyone in South Carolina. The creation of clusters of study as well as mandated individual graduation plans (IGPs) promising seamless K-16 transitions are several innovations in the program which could be considered for adoption in other states.

Background and Context
In many states, recent legislation or gubernatorial priorities have focused attention on increasing access for high school students to post-secondary options. Small learning communities, advisory systems, individual learning plans, AP and IB classes, dual enrollment programs, exit exams, and the push to increase rigor of high school classes and graduation requirements are approaches states use to guide students through graduation and help them make successful transitions into college.
