Framework for Connecticut’s High Schools: A Working Guide for High School Redesign
Source: Connecticut State Department of Education Date: 2003
This executive summary highlights the Connecticut State Department of Education’s Framework for Connecticut’s High Schools: A Working Guide for High School Redesign, which provides a common framework for leaders at the state, district, school and community levels. The summary highlights the seven expectations identified in the framework and lists requirements and policy recommendation for each expectation. While high school redesign may vary by school community, all communities in Connecticut must develop a comprehensive plan that includes all seven of the framework expectations. Finally, the summary lists practices to consider phasing out and replacing that have an impact on teaching and learning or school structures. This could be a helpful resource for states that want to tackle high school redesign in a comprehensive and interconnected way while providing their local districts and schools with clear action steps.

Background and Context
Educational transformation requires changes at the state, district, school, and classroom levels. By supporting districts in their secondary school redesign efforts, state education agencies must not only provide direction, but also gain a deeper knowledge of the processes of redesign by learning from the experiences of individual districts. This in turn will facilitate stronger state leadership in support of future efforts.
