Source: Forum for Youth Investment Date: 2004
This document is an observation and discussion tool from the Forum for Youth Investment. It is meant to facilitate conversations between young people and adults about what makes a school "good" for students. These methods can identify a school as a youth-centered learning environment, which is important in determining whether schools are reaching their goals. States, districts and schools can use this document as a self-assessment, or as an assessment for site visits to other schools.

Background and Context
Educational transformation requires changes at the state, district, school, and classroom levels. By supporting districts in their secondary school redesign efforts, state education agencies must not only provide direction, but also gain a deeper knowledge of the processes of redesign by learning from the experiences of individual districts. This in turn will facilitate stronger state leadership in support of future efforts.
